Biography of Kazi Nazrul Islam
Name: Kazi Nazrul Islam
Birth: May 25, 1899
Birth Place: Burdwan District, West Bengal
Father’s Name: Kazi Fakir Ahmed, was the IMAM of a mosque and the caretaker of a mausoleum
Father’s Occupation: Imam of a mosque
Mother’s Name: Zaheda Khatun
School Life: After his father's death in 1908, Nazrul took up his father's job as caretaker and also served as muazzin of the mosque to support his family. He passed the lower primary examination from his village MAKTAB. Nazrul had two brothers, Kazi Shahebjan and Kazi Ali Hussein, and a sister, Umme Kulsum. Nicknamed Dukhu Mia ("Sad Man"), Nazrul began attending the maktab — the local religious school, run by the mosque — where he studied the Qur'an and other scripture, Islamic philosophy and theology
